Since 2022, 175 countries have been negotiating a UN global Plastics Treaty. This international agreement presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to comprehensively address the plastic pollution crisis.
So far, the majority of countries have expressed their willingness to champion a robust plastics treaty that reduces plastic production, bans toxic chemicals, and safeguards human health and the environment. However, as countries finalize the treaty's terms, it could be easily diluted and corrupted by a few plastic-producing countries.
Together, we must urge nations to adopt an ambitious and effective treaty. The time is now: the next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Geneva from August 4th to 15th.
We are calling on citizens from around the world to contact their country’s Minister at the negotiations and ask them to adopt a strong Plastics Treaty that can ensure a future free from plastic pollution.
