Leading up to World Cleanup Day on September 18, Break Free From Plastic members and allies will be holding brand audits across the globe. This year, we are strengthening the connection between plastic pollution and the climate crisis. Did you know that just 20 fossil fuel companies are responsible for more than 1/3 of all greenhouse gas emissions in the modern age? And guess what? Over 99% of plastic is made from fossil fuels. PLASTIC IS OIL and corporations need to own up to that fact.
With your help, we can gather actual data and evidence needed to demand accountability from the corporations who have polluted our environment non-stop with their plastic waste and have contributed to the climate crisis.
Our first priority is your health and safety. Please be vigilant about the current status of the coronavirus pandemic in your area when planning your cleanup and brand audit. This guide will help ensure you keep your brand audit event safe.
This year, Break Free From Plastic will continue calling out the top corporate polluters and demand that they:
REVEAL
how many single-use plastic items they are really producing
REDUCE
their plastic footprint
REDESIGN
their packaging to be reusable and refillable
