Geneva, August 13, 2025 - Today at 2:50 pm, Luis Vayas Valdivieso, Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee meeting for a Plastics Treaty, released a new text for negotiations. The proposal lacks all the key components that civil society groups and high ambition countries have been asking for to effectively address the plastic pollution crisis.ย
Just minutes after the #PlasticsTreaty INC Chair released a new treaty text that lacks the most important provisions to effectively address plastic pollution, frontline communities had an action right outside of the plenary room to remind country delegates to 'use their power, use their voice, to end plastic pollution for communities, our planet, and future generations.'
