Founder of Balifokus (now Nexus 3) and convenor of the Indonesian Zero Waste Alliance (AZWI)
Yuyun has more than 25 years of experience in environmental health, actively involved in chemicals, especially mercury, and wastes conventions negotiations. Before her work in the NGO sector, she worked as a consultant for various environmental projects.
Together with close friends, she co-founded BaliFokus, which later rebranded as Nexus3 Foundation in response to a broader scale of interests and work areas. She also co-founded and actively involved as a steering committee member of various coalitions and partnerships at the national level including the Alliance for Zero Waste Indonesia (AZWI), the Indonesian Centre for Environmental Law (ICEL), the Prakarsa, and the Ashoka Indonesia Foundation. At the regional and global level, Yuyun is also actively involved as an SC member of IPEN, WECF, and BAN Brand Ambassador. Recently, she has been involved as one of the Ambassadors of the Earth Project.
Yuyun received a Goldman Environmental Prize in 2009 for her work in sustainable community-based urban sanitation systems. She was recognised by Time magazine as one of the Heroes for the Environment in 2009 and one of the Inspirational Women in Indonesia by the Forbes Indonesia magazine in 2014. She is an Ashoka Fellow and LEAD Fellow Cohort-8 for sustainable development. She holds an Environmental Engineering bachelor degree from Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia and MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford.
